Permit Requirements

Attendance Permit

Inter-district Incoming Permit: If you do not live within the boundaries of the Hawthorne School District, you must first obtain a ‘Release Permit’ from your home school district (even if your child has never attended that district), before submitting a permit application requesting a Hawthorne School District school. As a precaution, contact your district of residence to inquire about enrollment procedures. Your child should attend a school in your home district while awaiting notification regarding your permit request.

Inter-district Release Permit: If your child resides within the Hawthorne School District and you plan to submit a permit application for a school in another district, you must first apply for a ‘Release Permit’ from the Hawthorne School District (even if your child has never attended a Hawthorne School District school), before applying to the new district. As a precaution, if you have not received notice that your child’s permit has been approved for the new school district, then your child must begin classes at his/her current school in Hawthorne School District. Contact the HSD Permit Office at (310) 970-7550. Proof of residency within the Hawthorne School District is required for all requests.

Intra-district Permit: If your child resides within the Hawthorne School District and you are requesting a different school within the Hawthorne School District other than your home school, then your child should attend the home school while awaiting notification regarding your permit request. All documentation listed below, including report card, must be attached when submitting a permit application. Proof of residency within the Hawthorne School District is required for all requests.

Two parent households require letters from both of the parents’ employers.

2. Parent Employment:

For grade level and attendance verification purposes, a copy of the most recent report card should be attached to all incoming inter-district and intra-district permit requests. Completed permit applications are to be submitted either by mail or in person, to the Hawthorne School District Permit Office at 13928 S. Kornblum Ave., Hawthorne 90250. After review, parent(s)/guardian(s) will receive notification of the final decision by mail.

Note: The approval of permits is based on space availability as well as the guidelines as stated on the permit application. All attendance permits that are eligible for renewal must be re-submitted each year with updated verification as stated above and will be subject to review. Incomplete applications may delay processing or will be returned.
